News Thread 1.0 - New GeckoNews

Welcome to GeckoNews, our new space to share updates, thoughts, and the story behind what we do and why we do it. This first post was originally going to be much longer, and more personal than what’s to come, but I felt it was important to start by sharing some real context before diving into the updates.

So, I’ve decided to split it into separate posts so you can skip the bits you already know or jump straight to the parts you’re most interested in reading.

Why Now

It’s rare for me to get ill, but after a string of long days and late nights, it was probably bound to happen. Running a small business means I’m usually thinking about the next kit, the next task, the next everything. And with so many lovely Gecko customers patiently waiting for their next project, taking a break feels almost criminal, especially when it’s not by choice.

Right now, I’m tucked up in bed, away from the work PC, typing this on a very temperamental laptop that’s just about holding itself together. Rather than feel sorry for myself (or snooze the day away), I figured I’d try to stay productive. So although it’s taken a few short bursts throughout the day, I thought it was a good chance to make use of the quiet and figure out a new way we can share updates without things getting lost in the blur of social media feeds.

We’ve relied on Facebook for years, but not everyone’s on there. And let’s be honest, emailing 2,000+ subscribers with quick little updates especially when a new release isn’t quite ready doesn’t always feel right either. So I had a quick browse through the website features to see if there was anything useful to work with... and completely forgot about the blog section.

That should work nicely.

I can’t promise perfect structure or regular posts, but I can promise they’ll be honest, hopefully helpful, and give a bit of behind-the-scenes insight. I’ll do my best to write them clearly with a little help from Grammarly :) At least this way, if anything gets translated, I can be a bit more confident it won’t accidentally cause any awkward misunderstandings.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, or anything you’d like to ask or share. Every bit of insight helps me understand how to keep improving and growing GeckoRouge to make it more enjoyable for everyone. I have never blogged before, and rarely post in forums. I try to keep social media comments short and sweet as to avoid sounding like a copy pasta robot. So I guess I will learn as I go and I hope you find this useful :)
