News Thread 1.4: Looking Ahead

Right now, we’re focused on cross stitch, but when the time feels right, I’d love to introduce other crafts and open the space up to new ideas and possibilities. I want GeckoRouge to grow into a creative home for artists and makers. A space where projects aren’t rushed, creativity is respected, and people feel part of something real.

A space where creativity is both appreciated and supported. Where artists can earn a living doing what they do best, and crafters can enjoy bringing that work to life in their own unique way. That balance has always felt important to me, making something beautiful while respecting the time, talent, and heart that goes into it.

GeckoRouge has never been about fast cars or big houses. I’m nearly 44 and I live in a small flat above a funeral directors. It’s not flashy, but it works. And with our new office just a few minutes away, the commute is easy, although I really should walk more often. It gives me the time and space to do what I need to do.
At least living above a funeral directors means the flat will stay dry if there’s ever another flood. Though next time, it probably won’t be the bins I’m worried about floating down the road 😂

Life likes to throw curve balls. And the more we grow up, the more life pulls us in different directions with responsibilities, routines, and paths we never quite saw coming. But I still think it’s important to hold onto that spark. That small moment of excitement when you open something new. Whether it’s a gift or a treat for yourself, we never really outgrow that feeling. Even if it’s just for a brief moment, it can take you back. A flicker of magic, a reminder of the joy you felt as a child. A pause from everything else, where you get to let go for a second and simply enjoy something you’re genuinely excited about.

Those moments seem to get rarer as life goes on. But isn’t life really about experiencing the flickers of magical moments, no matter how small they are?

If we can help bring that feeling to someone, support artists in doing what they love, grow a community of creatives and crafters, and inspire others to make something meaningful, then that’s exactly why I keep doing what I do. I hope that together, we can build a space to share, enjoy, and truly feel part of.

That’s always been my dream.
It might sound big. But plenty of people said the same thing when I first started GeckoRouge, and yet, here we are.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, even if you skipped the other parts. We know our kits aren’t cheap. We know some would prefer patterns. We know the kits can take time to make and arrive, and we know we make changes that some of you will miss.

Please know that as much as we’d love to please everyone all the time, we sometimes have to make difficult decisions in order to keep doing what we do and to continue moving forward toward our vision.

I truly thank you all for being part of our Gecko family, whether you’ve been with us for years or only just discovered us. I hope these posts give a bit more insight into why GeckoRouge exists, and how it might grow into something more people can enjoy and find opportunity in.

I truly appreciate each and every one of you.
Thank you, Geckos!
